Rideau Ground Search and Rescue Team

Welcome to Rideau Ground Search and Rescue

The Rideau Ground Search and Rescue Team is comprised of a group of committed volunteers providing equipment and trained personnel to the Ontario Provincial Police in the performance of Search and Rescue operations. We are based primarily in Lanark County area. We are a non-profit organization.

Rideau Ground Search and Rescue Team is a member of the Ontario Search and Rescue Association (OSARVA) which is the governing body for Volunteer Search and Rescue teams within the Province of Ontario and is the liaison between the OPP, NSS, EMO and other Volunteer SAR teams.

Additionally we train and form a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to provide assistance to police/fire/ems within Lanark County when required.

This spring (2012) we have commenced with a Mounted SAR element to assist with Search and Rescue operations or CERT incidents.

The team also participates in educational programs, such as AdventureSmart which combines online and on-site awareness with targeted outreach to try to reduce the number and severity of search and rescue incidents. We also teach a Hug-a-Tree and Survive Program. This presentation is aimed at children in grades K-6. It instructs children how not to become lost in the wilderness, and what to do if they should become lost.
